The National Race Against the Odds is the leading fundraising and awareness event for The Cure Starts Now in the Washington, DC Metro Area. It all began in 2009, when friends of Alexis Agin’s family suggested organizing a race to raise funds for Alexis’ medical expenses. Teaming with The Cure Starts Now, Alexis’ friends and family came together, and with less than three months of planning, the first Race Against the Odds was held in Arlington, Virginia.
With nearly five hundred runners and walkers participating and hundreds of volunteers and spectators, the first race raised over $50,000 for The Cure Starts Now. In the past four years, the National Race Against the Odds has raised just shy of $300,000 and had over 2500 runners and walkers cross the finish line. Now in its momentous fifth year, the Arlington race has inspired nine other Race Against the Odds across the country and serves as the premier "umbrella" race for The Cure Starts Now.
To celebrate its fifth installment, this year’s race will have many exciting additions. Whether you come out to run or walk, to cheer on your friends and family, or to take advantage of many of the fun and exciting children’s activities, you’ll have a great time while helping to raise critically-needed funds for pediatric brain cancer research.
